Social Clubs for elderly people who use stair lifts

With people now living longer there is an increased need for care in the community work for the elderly who live among us. For elderly people who still live in their own homes, the days can seem very long. Some people who are house bound and find it difficult to get to the shops are often reliant on a relative to fetch any food or essentials which they might need and collect their pension. They often don’t see another sole from one week to the next. In order for these elderly people carry on living in their own homes it is necessary for them to have a stair lift (Treppenlifte) installed by way of getting upstairs. There are other products which are also installed such as panic alarms, which alerts a call centre and makes them aware that the person in question may be in distress. Bath aids which allows the elderly person to have easy access into the bath.

A bus is often laid on to pick up elderly people in the community and take them to a social club. There, they can mingle with other people of the same age and talk about the years gone by whilst having a cup of tea. They can play bingo, dominoes, cards or just chat. Other activities are offered such as card making and painting. Occasionally they are offered the chance to have a change of scenery with a trip out to the seaside or countryside. This activity is usually loved by all because it is unusual for an old person to be offered the chance of this, as becoming old often means we can’t do the activities we did when we were young.

There are people who volunteer to run community clubs, lunch clubs and social clubs for the old people to enable the elderly to have a life outside of their home. These clubs are an essential part of keeping the elderly happy and making them feel as though they still have something to do and live for. The clubs provide a warm meal for the elderly and often get them up to dance during their time in the centre.

Other carers volunteer their time to go and have a chat with an old person who doesn’t get out of the house. This gives the elderly person something to look forward to, especially in the winter when the days are shorter and the nights longer, the thought of staying in a cold house can be very daunting. These volunteers often take the elderly person out to an appointment at the doctors or hospital and round the friends, they deliver any food which the elderly person may need. Usually the elderly who have these volunteers have no family to speak of, so these volunteers brighten up their day.

It is important to remember our elderly, and it also important that they stay in their home for as long as they want to, and it is thanks to new stair lift (LiftaTreppenlifte) technology that we can offer the elderly this option.
